Beer Margarita
Although relatively new compared to the original margarita recipe, the beer margarita is also gaining popularity thanks to its refreshing taste and because it’s made out of everyone’s favorite beverage, beer of course! The combination might sound strange to the hardcore original margarita fan, but give it a taste and I assure you, you will not be disappointed. Some may say it sounds cheap, but take it from me, when you add a dash of fresh lime to the beer margarita mixture you will end up with an excellent classic cocktail with a modern twist to it.
The trick when making beer margarita is to use any brand of light beer, I am not endorsing any brand, but Coors or Budweiser works great for me. As beer is naturally foamy, make sure you stir lightly when you mix your glass of beer margarita, so that the foam doesn’t spill and lose most of your beer in the process. Or if you are using a blender, make sure you don’t fill it to the brim with all the ingredients of your beer margarita. Be sure to keep a little space left over for the foam when you blend. Although I personally do not, some beer margarita recipes call for adding water to the mixture. In my opinion the added ice cubes are enough to do the trick.
When you are making a beer margarita, don’t worry about the quality of the tequila. My advice is go for the cheapest tequila you can find. The tequila taste is very mild in the finished beer margarita so the brand or the quality really doesn’t matter.
Here’s my take on the beer margarita, it’s pretty much the same as almost all the beer margaritas out there, but the secret lies in adding the ingredients according to the order below. Take a blender and fill 2/3 of it in ice cubes, pour in about six ounces of any light beer of your choice, add six more ounces of tequila, then add a few ounces of vodka to the mix for an extra punch, a few table spoons of sour mix or limeade, I personally prefer minute maid, put the lid on tight and blend it. Be sure to blend your beer margarita till the ice is nice and crushed. Once you open the lid of the blender, you will see that your beer margarita is a nice whitish frothy blend. Pour it in to a nice tall glass or a margarita glass and garnish with a wedge of lime and serve. If you don’t like crushed ice in your margarita, just stir all the ingredients in a large pitcher and serve it on the rocks with a wedge of lemon on the rim.
